The success of my book club has been full of joy and self-discovery for all of us; the books we have read are from well know authors to some alternative approaches you can include as part of your CPD or practice. If you would like to engage in a shared reading experience, gain a deeper understanding of coaching, and learn new tools along the way, please join me for the Bi-monthly book club. In addition, I have included some of my best reads of 2022, which may be of interest to you.

1 – Coaching What Really Works – Author Jenny Rogers distils her decades of experience to guide you through the challenges and pitfalls, joys and rewards, and dos and don’ts of coaching. Eileen’s Audible best listens.

1 – Are You Listening? Stories from a Coaching Life. by Jenny Rogers. I was captivated from the start and found it difficult to stop listening. Throughout the book, Jenny expresses how much she appreciates the very essence of individuals, and the message I took from the book was how we as humans need to align with who we are and seek out what is missing from our lives. 2 – Connect: Building Exceptional Relationships with Family, Friends and Colleagues. 2022 – Connect offers a compelling and highly accessible roadmap for building relationships that lead to professional success and personal fulfilment. I highly recommend this book’

3 – Love’s Executioner Audible Audiobook –The collection of 10 absorbing tales by master psychotherapist Irvin D. Yalom uncovers the mysteries, frustrations, pathos, and humour at the heart of the therapeutic encounter.

4 – The Promise That Changes Everything: I Won’t Interrupt You –  I found this book to offer a fresh, new perspective on how to create a thinking environment. Read my blog review of this audiobook. 

5 – The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk – The effects of trauma can be devastating for sufferers, their families and future generations. Here one of the world’s experts on traumatic stress offers a bold new paradigm for treatment, moving away from standard talking and drug therapies and towards an alternative approach that heals mind, brain and body.

6 – The Asshole Survival Guide by Robert I Sutton – How to Deal with People Who Treat You Like Dirt Audible Audiobook Stanford professor Robert Sutton offers practical advice on identifying and tackling any kind of asshole – based on research into groups from uncivil civil servants to French bus drivers, and 8,000 emails that he has received on asshole behaviour.

1 – The Little Book of Big Coaching Models by Bob Bates – cuts through all the noise and gives managers access to the very best coaching models that they need to get the best from their team; every model is quick and easy to read and delivers the essential information and know-how quickly, efficiently and memorably. 2 – Care of the Soul by Thomas Moore – An inspirational read which adds depth and meaning to your everyday life. Read my blog review of this book. 

3 – Internal Family Systems Therapy by Richard Schwartz –  IFS reveals how the subpersonalities or “parts” of each individual’s psyche relate to each other like members of a family and how–just as in a family–polarization among parts can lead to emotional suffering.

4 – Dare to Lead by  Brene Brown – Now, based on new research conducted with leaders, change makers and culture shifters, she’s showing us how to put those ideas into practice so we can step up and lead.

5 – Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown – The quest for true belonging and the courage to stand alone. A timely and important new book that challenges everything we think we know about cultivating true belonging in our communities, organizations, and culture. 

6 – Thinking, Fast and Slow By Daniel Kahneman -This book reveals how our minds are tripped up by error and prejudice (even when we think we are being logical), and gives you practical techniques for slower, smarter thinking. It will enable you to make better decisions at work, at home, and in everything you do.

Effective Mentoring -This workbook will encourage you to learn and practise new skills and techniques to improve your performance as a mentor. The programme consists of several modules covering different aspects of mentoring with learning tools, techniques and exercises for you to practise. Whilst the overall objective of this workbook is to facilitate your professional development, the workbook aims to provide you with a balanced viewpoint and understanding through the underpinning and thought-provoking exploration of mentoring. Effective CoachingEffective Coaching – I am delighted to bring you this new workbook in a new series of books written from my extensive experience in coaching and mentoring. By working through the materials and the exercises provided, you will gain a strong foundation, knowledge and understanding of what it takes to become an effective coach! Overall, writing this book has been an enriching experience. I’ve reflected on my coachees’ different skills, abilities, views and the many years of delivering coaching courses, giving me hundreds of hours of coaching experience.
